The Biggest AI Events in Europe

Guillaume Rostand, Tanguy Wincker, Adam Hruska·June 25, 2026·9 min read

The largest AI event in Europe by total attendance is VivaTech in Paris, with 180,000+ visitors, but it is a broad tech festival, not an AI-only event. The biggest dedicated AI conference in Europe is AI Summit Barcelona (22–23 September 2026), targeting 10,000+ attendees, narrowly ahead of RAISE Summit Paris (9,000+). For pure AI focus, choose a summit; for sheer scale, choose a festival.

If you want the short version: the biggest AI event in Europe by raw attendance is VivaTech in Paris, a tech festival that drew more than 180,000 visitors in 2026, followed by Web Summit in Lisbon (70,000+) and GITEX Europe in Berlin (40,000+). Among events that are purely focused on artificial intelligence, the biggest AI summit in Europe is a tighter race between AI Summit Barcelona (targeting 10,000+ attendees) and Paris's RAISE Summit (9,000+). This guide ranks the largest AI events across Europe by size and audience, with confirmed cities, dates and formats so you can decide which one belongs on your calendar.

Methodology

How we measured size

One thing to be clear about up front: this ranking is about size, not quality. A bigger event is not a better event — it is simply a bigger one. We ordered the list using:

  • Verified attendance — headcount from organiser reports and event reporting, treated as planning estimates rather than audited figures.
  • Exhibition floor size — the scale of the expo and stand footprint.
  • Number of speakers and sessions — the breadth of the programme.
  • Number of countries represented — how international the crowd is.
  • Year-on-year growth — whether the event is expanding or plateauing.

Where figures conflicted, we made a call and noted it. These are editorial judgements by Guillaume Rostand, Tanguy Wincker and Adam Hruska, not numbers spat out by a scraper — and "biggest" here means size, not a verdict on which event is best for you.

What is the biggest AI event in Europe?

The phrase "biggest AI event" hides two very different questions, so it is worth splitting them before you book a flight.

If you measure by total attendance, the title goes to the giant pan-European tech festivals. VivaTech in Paris is the clear leader, reporting more than 180,000 attendees and 15,000 startups in 2026, with artificial intelligence dominating the agenda. Web Summit in Lisbon (70,000+) and GITEX Europe in Berlin (40,000+) follow. These are sprawling exhibitions where AI is the headline theme but shares the floor with fintech, robotics, climate tech and consumer hardware.

If you measure by the biggest AI conference in Europe that is genuinely built around artificial intelligence, the picture changes. The leaders here are AI Summit Barcelona and RAISE Summit Paris, both designed around AI strategy, research and deployment rather than a general tech show.

Europe's AI events have grown in lockstep with the funding and research behind them. Per the Atomico State of European Tech 2024 report, AI was the standout investment category for European startups, and the Stanford AI Index 2025 confirms Europe as a leading region for AI publications and talent — context that explains why the continent's AI conference calendar keeps expanding year over year.

The biggest AI events in Europe, ranked

1. VivaTech — Paris (180,000+)

VivaTech is the biggest tech and AI event in Europe by a wide margin. Held at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, its 2026 edition reported over 180,000 attendees, 15,000 startups and roughly 4,000 investors across four days. It is enormous and energetic, but it is a general technology festival where AI leads the conversation rather than an AI-only summit.

2. Web Summit — Lisbon (70,000+)

Often described as Europe's most important technology gathering, Web Summit draws more than 70,000 attendees from 160+ countries to Lisbon. The 2026 edition runs 9–12 November. AI is the dominant theme across its many stages, alongside startups, venture capital and policy.

3. GITEX Europe — Berlin (40,000+)

GITEX, originally a Dubai exhibition, has expanded into Europe with a dedicated AI focus. GITEX Europe takes place 30 June – 1 July 2026 at Messe Berlin, with organiser estimates ranging from 40,000 upward. Expect generative AI, enterprise adoption and the EU AI Act front and centre.

4. AI Summit Barcelona — Barcelona (~10,000 target)

AI Summit Barcelona is the largest event on this list built entirely around artificial intelligence. Taking place 22–23 September 2026 at the WTC Barcelona, it is positioned as Europe's flagship AI summit and is targeting around 10,000 attendees for two days of keynotes, applied AI tracks and networking on the Mediterranean. See who is on stage on the speakers page.

5. RAISE Summit — Paris (9,000+)

RAISE Summit returns to Le Carrousel du Louvre in Paris on 8–9 July 2026, expecting more than 9,000 attendees with a heavily senior audience of founders, investors and policymakers. It is one of the most influential AI-only summits in Europe and a close peer to Barcelona.

6. AI Summit London — London (4,500)

Part of London Tech Week, AI Summit London (10–11 June 2026) brings together around 4,500 technologists and business leaders. It is a long-running enterprise-AI fixture and the UK's anchor AI summit.

7. World Summit AI — Amsterdam

World Summit AI is one of Europe's longest-running AI summits, returning to Amsterdam on 7–8 October 2026 for its tenth-anniversary edition. It convenes C-suite executives, researchers, government officials and investors across industries.

Related entities: companies, cities and people

The biggest AI events in Europe are anchored by the continent's leading AI companies, host cities and the people who speak on their stages. A few of the entities that recur across this ranking:

  • AI companies: Mistral AI (Paris), Hugging Face, ElevenLabs, Synthesia and Stability AI are among the European AI firms most visible across these events.
  • Host cities: Paris, Lisbon, Berlin, Barcelona, London and Amsterdam form the core circuit. Explore the top AI startups in Europe by city for the ecosystems behind each.
  • People & speakers: leaders such as Luc Julia, Nouamane Tazi and Laura Gilbert headline Europe's AI stages — see the full speakers line-up.

AI summit vs tech festival: which "biggest" matters to you?

The size ranking flips depending on what you are actually looking for. Use this rule of thumb:

  • For scale, serendipity and sheer footfall, the tech festivals win. VivaTech, Web Summit and GITEX put tens of thousands of people, hundreds of stages and vast expo floors under one roof. AI is everywhere, but so is everything else.
  • For depth on artificial intelligence specifically, the dedicated summits win. AI Summit Barcelona, RAISE Summit, AI Summit London and World Summit AI are built around AI strategy, research, deployment and the people who do that work day to day.
  • For signal-to-noise, a focused AI summit usually beats a 180,000-person festival: more of the room is working on the same problems you are.

In short, the biggest AI event in Europe by headcount is a festival, but the best AI event in Europe for an AI professional is often a dedicated summit where the entire agenda is artificial intelligence.

Why AI Summit Barcelona stands out among Europe's biggest AI events

AI Summit Barcelona sits at the sweet spot of this ranking: large enough to be a genuine European flagship, focused enough that every session is about artificial intelligence. A few reasons it earns its place near the top:

  • Scale with focus. A ~10,000-attendee target makes it the biggest AI-only summit in Europe, without diluting into a general tech expo.
  • Strategic timing. Its 22–23 September 2026 dates land in the busy autumn season, after the summer festivals and before the year-end events, anchoring Barcelona as a European AI capital.
  • Location. The WTC Barcelona on the waterfront makes the city one of the most attractive destinations on the AI calendar for international attendees.
  • A serious speaker line-up. The programme is built around the leaders, builders and researchers shaping applied AI. You can preview who is on stage on our speakers page, and read the full context in our AI Summit Europe dossier.
