Biography

Isabella Loaiza is a computational social scientist and Postdoctoral Associate at MIT Sloan School of Management, where she studies the impact of AI and emerging technologies on work, workers, and organisational talent practices. Her research focuses on human–AI complementarities, automation and augmentation dynamics, skilling and reskilling, labour inequalities, and sustainable skills.

She holds a master’s and PhD from the MIT Media Lab, where she worked with Alex Pentland, and previously studied business administration and logistics in Colombia. Her work combines computational methods, network science, and statistical techniques to create data-driven insights that can inform policy, organisational strategy, and individual career decisions in the age of AI.

She has contributed to research suggesting that AI is more likely to complement than replace human workers, and has spoken publicly on how the future of work should be centred on people rather than just technology. Her profile is especially relevant for sessions on AI and the future of work, workforce transformation, skills and reskilling, labour markets, and human-centred AI policy.

Debate 2 — Future of Work: Will AI Replace Half of Knowledge Workers by 2030?

    Tuesday 22 September, 16:00 – 16:55Auditorium Stage

Tobi Lütke told Shopify managers: don't hire unless you can prove AI can't do the job. Goldman called it a $7-trillion labor shift. Wall Street is pricing in the productivity surge. So is this the great unbundling of the knowledge economy — or the latest in a 30-year history of tech-replaces-work predictions that never came true? Two debaters fight it out: one sees a near-future where the white-collar middle is hollowed out, the other sees AI as the most powerful augmentation tool we've ever built, with employment levels intact. 55 minutes, bell-to-bell.
